SFY 2013-2014 Budget Restores Lapsed Funding for Spinal Cord Research

Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver today announced $2 million in the 2013-2014 state Budget for the Spinal Cord Injury Research Trust Fund.

"I join with the more than 16,000 New Yorkers with spinal cord injuries in welcoming the restoration of this research funding," said Silver. "This investment funds groundbreaking research that transforms the lives of those with spinal cord injuries."

First funded in 1998, the Spinal Cord Injury Research Program (SCIRP) draws on monies available within the Spinal Cord Injury Research Trust Fund to assist researchers' efforts to find a cure for spinal cord injuries. Since its inception, SCIRP has awarded over $71 million to fund pioneering research into the therapy and treatment of spinal cord injuries. Funding for the program has lapsed since 2010.
