I am deeply saddened to learn of the passing of his Eminence, Edward Cardinal Egan. His inspirational work on behalf of all New Yorkers, especially our most vulnerable citizens, will live on as an example to us all. In particular, his compassionate leadership in the wake of the terrible tragedy of September 11, 2001 will never be forgotten. On behalf of the New York State Assembly, I extend our deepest sympathies to his family, friends, the Archdiocese of New York and the Catholic community. May he rest in peace.
