Statement from Assembly Speaker Carl Heastie on the Passing of Brooklyn District Attorney Kenneth Thompson

I am incredibly saddened to learn of the passing of my good friend, Brooklyn District Attorney Kenneth Thompson. Ken was a man of great faith and served the people of New York with honor as the first elected African American District Attorney in Brooklyn. Ken was a leader in fighting for civil rights here at home and across the country and he never wavered in his quest for justice. Ken was committed to reforming and improving our criminal justice system, and I know his legacy and spirit will endure in the dedicated men and women of the Brooklyn District Attorney's office. A proud son of the Bronx, I had the good fortune of working with and getting to know Ken over the years, and my thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends during this very difficult time.
