Speaker Heastie Kicks off Annual Statewide Tour in Nassau County, Announced $1 Million for New Ambulance Unit

Speaker Carl Heastie kicked off his annual statewide tour today in Nassau County with Assemblymember Gina Sillitti. Together they visited property owned by the Manhasset-Lakeville Water and Fire District, where Speaker Heastie and Assemblymember Sillitti announced $1 million in Assembly funding to help build a dedicated ambulance station for the Manhasset-Lakeville Fire Department.

“I’m so excited to be kicking off my annual statewide tour today here with Assemblymember Sillitti and with the Manhasset-Lakeville commissioners, chiefs and members of the ambulance unit,” Speaker Heastie said. “This funding will help the district give its first responders a facility that will better support them and the lifesaving work they do in the community.”

“A dedicated ambulance unit will allow our first responders to have the space and resources they need to do the critically important service they provide to the community here in Nassau County,” Assemblymember Sillitti said. “I am so happy to have Speaker Heastie here with us today announcing this funding that will help our first responders and to tour the site of their future home.”

Speaker Heastie and Assemblymember Sillitti were joined on the tour by Manhasset-Lakeville Fire and Water District Commissioners Steven Flynn, Brian Morris and Mark Sauvigne, along with members of the ambulance unit. The Manhasset-Lakeville Fire Department is one of the largest in Nassau County and is interested in building an ambulance unit which would provide a location for sleeping quarters, restrooms, a showering room and equipment storage space, as well as serve as a location membership recruitment, retention services and training activities. The facility would cost approximately $10 million. The $1 million in funding Speaker Heastie announced today will contribute to the $3 million already allotted for the project, bringing the district closer to their goal.
