Speaker Heastie and Assemblymember Stern Visit Huntington Senior Center, Announcing $1 Million in Funding for New Roof
Speaker Carl Heastie continued his annual statewide tour today with Assemblymember Steve Stern at the Huntington Senior Center for a cake and coffee social with local senior residents, and announced $1 million in funding to replace the center’s glass atrium roof.
“The services provided by this center allows our senior community members the support they need to continue to thrive,” said Speaker Heastie. “I’m honored to join Assemblymember Stern here today to meet with the residents and hear the impact these resources have on the community over some cake and coffee.”
“I want to thank Speaker Heastie for joining us here today to visit our senior center and chat with community members,” said Assemblymember Stern. “The town of Huntington remains a shining example of how a community should care for its senior residents through daily activities, special events, nutritional services and adult day care programs. Today’s visit highlights the importance of their work and I want to ensure they have the support needed to continue well into the future.”
Speaker Heastie and Assemblymember Stern joined Huntington Town Supervisor Edmund J. Smyth, Huntington Highway Superintendent Andre Sorrentino and Huntington Town Director of Human Services Kevin Thorbourne for a tour of the town’s senior center and to announce $1 million in funding for the center’s glass atrium roof. Together, they met with senior residents for a cake and coffee social to hear more about the services the town provides to residents age 60 and older. For decades, Huntington has provided all senior residents access to activities, healthy meals, educational workshops, special events and vital information to support their later years in a caring atmosphere.
