Enacted SFY 2025-26 Budget Invests $2.2 Billion to Make Childcare for Affordable for New York Families
Speaker Carl Heastie and Children and Families Committee Chair Andrew Hevesi today announced that the Enacted State Fiscal Year (SFY) 2025-26 Budget invests $2.2 billion in childcare, including $400 million to ensure that localities have the resources to keep childcare subsidy enrollment open.
“The Assembly Majority is committed to ensuring New York families have access to safe and affordable childcare,” Speaker Heastie said. “The funding in this budget is vital to parents looking for a place where their child can learn and grow while they’re at work. We will continue working to get families the resources they need to succeed.”
“This budget makes a critical investment in our families and in our children,” said Assemblymember Hevesi. “Families across New York struggle to find safe and affordable childcare, and this funding will ease that burden on parents, getting them the support they need to provide themselves and their children with a bright future.”
The spending plans invests $2.2 billion in childcare subsidies, $400 million more than SFY 2024-25. Of the $400 million, $350 million will be prioritized to ensure New York City families have access to childcare subsidy enrollment. The other $50 million is reserved for social services districts outside of New York City.
