Speaker Heastie Visits Nassau County with Assemblywoman Griffin on Annual Statewide Tour

Speaker Carl Heastie continued his annual statewide tour today with Assemblywoman Judy Griffin visiting Baldwin High School’s wellness center and Innovation Learning Collaboratory in Nassau County.

“Investing in our young people is critical to shaping our future,” said Speaker Heastie. “These new facilities will provide students the opportunity to work towards growing their mental and physical well-being so that they can focus on school and grow into the well-rounded citizens of tomorrow.”

“I’m honored to have Speaker Heastie here today to see the investment my community is making in our students,” said Assemblywoman Griffin. “The wellness center and innovation facility will provide our students the tools and resources they need to thrive in all aspects of their lives. I am so proud that the Baldwin School District has created and built these dynamic facilities to serve their student body.”

Speaker Heastie and Assemblywoman Griffin met with Dr. Shari Camhi, superintendent of schools for the Baldwin Union Free School District; Anthony Mignella, assistant superintendent for instruction; and Mary Jo O’Hagan, president of the Baldwin Board of Education to tour the schools’ Health and Wellness Center that will offer students medical, physical and behavioral healthcare services through collaboration with Harmony Healthcare Long Island.

Speaker Heastie and Assemblywoman Griffin also toured the school’s old library that has been transformed into the Innovation Learning Collaboratory. This space will provide students with an open environment where they can work together and learn the collaboration skills required for careers after graduation.
