Speaker Heastie Encourages Relief Efforts for the Bahamas

Relief Drive to Be Held on Friday, September 13th
1446 East Gun Hill Road, Bronx

The devastation wrought by Hurricane Dorian on the Bahamas has been heartbreaking. These islands hold a special place in my heart as the place my paternal grandparents called home, and I have returned there often to visit friends and family.

Here in New York, we have always extended a helping hand to those in dire need, and now we will do so again for our neighbors in the Bahamas. Working with the Consulate General of the Bahamas and the Bahamian American Association, I am proud to sponsor a relief drive in my district office at 1446 East Gun Hill Road, Bronx on Friday, September 13 from noon to 6 p.m. Urgently needed items include bottled watered, canned goods and other non-perishable items.

I am heartened to see that other legislative offices are conducting similar relief efforts, and I urge everyone to do what they can to help our brothers and sisters in the Caribbean who desperately need our help.
