| Agency Mission The Department of Agriculture and Markets is authorized to foster a competitive and safe environment for the agricultural and food industry in New York State. Year-to-Year Change The Executive proposal provides an All funds appropriation of $112,839,400 for State Fiscal Year (SFY) 2001-02. This represents a $5,591,200 or 4.8 percent decrease from SFY 2000-01 levels. Legislative Proposals The Assembly provides an additional $1,650,000 to support programs within the Department of Agriculture and Markets. The Assembly provides an additional $650,000 to support agricultural disease management programs. These include an additional $300,000 for the Cornell Johnes Disease Program, an additional $150,000 for the Cattle Health Assurance Program and an additional $200,000 for the Cornell Integrated Pest Management Program. The Assembly provides an additional $565,000 to support Agri-Marketing programs across the state. This includes an additional $315,000 for the New York State Wine and Grape Foundation to support the development of a "Slice of the Big Apple" marketing campaign aimed at increasing the exposure of New York State produced wines to the culinary and restaurant markets of the New York City metropolitan area. In addition, the Assembly provides $250,000 in support for the New York State Apple Growers Associations in support of an improved competitive position for the apple industry of New York State. The Assembly provides an additional $300,000 to support agricultural research and development at the Geneva Experimental Station. Finally, the Assembly provides an additional $135,000 to support agricultural education programs. This includes an additional $75,000 in support for the Future Farmers of America program, and an additional $60,000 in support for the Cornell Ag in the Classroom program.
