| Agency Mission The State Board of Elections administers and enforces all provisions of the Election Law and oversees the disclosure of campaign financing practices. The four member bi-partisan Board is appointed by the Governor for two-year terms on the recommendation of the state party chairs and legislative leaders. Year-to-Year Change The Executive requests $3,605,000 in General Fund spending for State Fiscal Year (SFY) 2001-2002, an increase of $286,900 or 8.6 percent over State Fiscal Year (SFY) 2000-01 funding level. Legislative Proposals In recognition of the aging and problematic nature of New York's mechanical voting machines, the Assembly provides $30 million to localities for the purpose of modernization of existing voting devices to ensure the integrity of the election process. There is a possibility of federal matching grants for states to update their election/voting equipment, and the funding advanced by the Assembly will position the State of New York and its localities to access such federal support.
