Budget Highlights

The Department of Civil Service is the central personnel agency for New York State government. The Department also provides testing and other support services to local governments.

The Department of Civil Service is included in the Public Protection and General Government appropriation bill.

State Operations

The Executive requests an All Funds appropriation of $58,816,000, a decrease of $6,967,000 or 10.59 percent from State Fiscal Year (SFY) 2002-03. This includes a General Fund appropriation of $22,048,000, a decrease of $6,415,000 from SFY 2002-03. This decrease is attributed to workforce reductions generated by attrition and early retirements, as well as a decline in costs associated with agency operations.

A Contingency Fund appropriation of $6,500,000 is included in the All Funds total.
