On the state level...
Department of Environmental Conservation
The Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) is providing financial assistance
through Technical Assistance Grants (TAGs). TAGs are citizen participation tools that
community groups can use to increase public awareness and understanding of remedial
activities taking place in their community. TAGs are intended to help grant recipients
understand existing environmental data developed about the site, comment on site
remedial activities and proposals and share the information obtained with the public.

Eligibility: Non-profit community organizations.

Deadline: Applications are accepted on an
ongoing basis.
Department of Environmental Conservation
The Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) is providing financial assistance for municipal
landfill gas-management projects that promote improved air quality at solid waste landfills and
encourage energy recovery from landfill gas.
-
Eligibility: Non-hazardous solid waste landfills that are municipally
owned or operated. The landfills may be active or inactive. Active landfill gas systems
must meet current landfill gas-management requirements. In addition, only landfill
gas-management costs incurred after April 1, 1993, are eligible for grant reimbursement.

Funding: The funding for this grant has been reduced. Applicants
will be placed on a waiting list to receive funding. Contact the Department of Environmental
Conservation for more information.
On the federal level...
The National Institute of Food and Agriculture
The National Institute of Food and Agriculture is accepting applications for the New Era Rural
Technology Competitive Grants Program. Grants will be provided to projects that are focused on
technology development, applied research and/or training to develop an agriculture-based renewable
energy workforce to serve rural communities. Projects should produce graduates who can strengthen
the nation’s technical, scientific and professional workforce in the fields of bioenergy, pulp and paper
manufacturing, and agriculture-based renewable energy resources.

Eligibility: Public and private non-profit community colleges and advanced
technological centers that are located in a rural area.

Funding: A total of $850,000 is available. Individual awards are not
to exceed $300,000.

Deadline: Wednesday, April 14, 2010.

National Endowment for the Arts
The National Endowment for the Arts is accepting applications through the Challenge
America Fast-Track project. Challenge America Fast-Track offers support primarily to
small and mid-sized organizations for projects that extend the reach of the arts to
underserved communities—those whose opportunities to experience the arts are limited
by geography, ethnicity, economics or disability.

Eligibility: Non-profit organizations; state or local governments;
private, public and state-controlled institutions of higher education; federally
recognized Native American tribal governments.

Funding: Individual awards are not to exceed $10,000.

National Institutes of Health
The National Institutes of Health is accepting applications through the National
Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA). Grants will be given to support projects that serve a
diverse array of preclinical and/or clinical research projects that accelerate the
translational discovery and/or development of safe and effective medications for the treatment
of substance-related disorders (SRD). Research projects must be focused on moving closer
to—or obtaining—FDA approval of medications for the treatment of these disorders.

Eligibility: Non-profit organizations; state and local governments;
private, public and state-controlled institutions of higher education; federally recognized
Native American tribal organizations; not federally recognized Native American tribal
organizations.

Funding: A total of $10 million is available. Individual awards
are not to exceed $1 million.

The Grantsmanship Center's Competing for Federal Grants workshop is coming to White Plains!
The Grantsmanship Training Program offers grant-proposal training to non-profit
and government agencies.
The upcoming classes will be conducted by The Grantsmanship Center and are restricted to

Attendees will learn how the center’s resources can help make them more effective grantseekers.
For beginners, this introduction to the library provides instruction in foundation research and
identification of potential funders. A tour of the library will follow.
Proposal Writing Basics: March 1, 6, 10
Attendees will learn about the basics of writing a proposal for their non-profit organizations.
Introduction to the Foundation Directory Online: March 4, 17, 22
This class provides a hands-on introduction to the center’s comprehensive online subscription database.
How to Approach a Foundation: March 11
Attendees will learn how to initiate contact with potential donors, plan calls and meetings, and build
partnerships with sponsors. This class is intended for fundraisers who have some experience but are
not experts.
