Assemblyman Alec Brook-Krasny (R,C-Coney Island) joined Minority members from the Assembly and Senate conferences, crime victims’ advocates, and members of law enforcement for a rally in Albany to urge changes to the state’s cashless bail laws and restoration of judicial discretion. The press conference featured remarks from Tammy Patrick, whose father, John Lee, was murdered by an individual released on assault charges thanks to cashless bail laws.

“Concerns about crime and the havoc of cashless bail laws have been heard across the state for years and the latest Siena College poll proves our point that New Yorkers are desperate to feel safe again,” Brook-Krasny said. “I hope that Gov. Hochul and legislative leaders can begin to lead with their conscious rather than placating to radicals in their own party. It’s time to put an end to lawlessness and clean up our streets.”

Gov. Hochul indicated a willingness to tweak New York’s bail laws during this year’s State of the State address. This week's press conference follows the release of a new Siena College poll showing a majority of both Majority and Minority lawmakers believe crime is a serious problem across the state.
