Brook-Krasny Stands for Increased School Safety and Security

Assemblyman Alec Brook-Krasny (R,C-Coney Island) stood with his Assembly Minority colleagues today in Albany for a press conference to call for increased school safety and security and to announce the release of the final report of the Minority Conference Task Force on School Safety & Security. The report was compiled after Minority assemblymembers met with mental health experts, teachers, parents and administrators around the state at a series of roundtables.
“Deadly violence in our schools is happening at an alarming rate and the reality is that we need more armed security outside of our schools to prevent the tragedies we have seen recently,” Brook-Krasny said. “On the mental health side, we need to incentivize mental health professionals to work in our schools and facilitate career pathways for talented individuals who can work in this industry and help our children who are struggling.”
The Assembly Minority Task Force on School Safety and Security made recommendations in the following areas:
- Increasing law enforcement presence in schools
- Addressing mental health issues in schools
- Opening communication between stakeholders
- Innovating state support for school safety and security
- Identifying threats and providing support to at-risk students
- Hardening infrastructure at schools
