Goodell Continues Fight For Disability Funding
New legislation would help restore $90 million cut during the budget
Assemblyman Andy Goodell (R,C,I-Chautauqua) joined a bipartisan group of legislators to restore the $90 million that was cut from not-for-profits that provide critical services for individuals with developmental disabilities. The funding restoration would be paid by cutting the Hollywood tax credits for the rich and famous by $90 million.
“The cut to The Resource Center, Aspire and other great organizations is going to have detrimental effects for years to come. Despite impassioned pleas during our debate, the funding was ultimately cut in the final budget. Those who rely on their services and care deserve better. This proposal gives us another chance to make it right, said Goodell.
The proposed legislation would reduce the available $420 million in film production tax credits by $90 million. This funding would then be used to restore the cut.
“The proposal we put forward today won’t create any additional cost to taxpayers, and more importantly, will honor our commitment to those less fortunate,” concluded Goodell.
