Assemblyman Santabarbara Encourages Farmers, Agribusiness Owners to Apply for COVID-19 Recovery Grants

Assemblyman Angelo Santabarbara is joining state Agriculture Commissioner Richard A. Ball in encouraging farmers and owners of agribusinesses to apply for assistance from New York’s $800 million COVID-19 Pandemic Small Business Recovery Grant Program.

“It’s impossible to overstate the significance of farmers and the agricultural industry to our state’s success,” said Santabarbara. “From growing the food that keeps our families strong and healthy to fueling our economy, New York depends on our farmers, many of whom were hit hard by the COVID-19 pandemic. Crucial recovery grants are available to those who need it, and I want to encourage everyone eligible to apply. As we move forward, I’ll keep working to help our local businesses get back on their feet.”

Santabarbara helped secure funding for these grants in the 2021-22 state budget. Grants of up to $50,000 are available for eligible small businesses with revenues up to $2.5 million and are experiencing hardship due to COVID-19. Santabarbara noted that the Department of Agriculture will also be hosting a webinar on Monday, Dec. 13, at 11 a.m., to discuss the grant program, the level of funding available and how to apply.
