PASSED: State Budget Includes CDTA Expansion for Amsterdam, Montgomery County In 111th Assembly District Represented by Assemblyman Santabarbara
Assemblyman Santabarbara announced that a bill passed as part of this year’s state budget will expand the Capital District Transportation Authority (CDTA) services into the City of Amsterdam and Montgomery County communities. The legislation is significant because it will bring public transportation back to the City of Amsterdam, which has been without a public transportation system since the Amsterdam Transportation Department was abolished in April 2018.
“Public transportation strengthens our communities, builds connections, boosts the local economy and helps residents – especially commuters, seniors and students – get to their destinations safely,” said Santabarbara. “With the passage of this bill today, we’re bringing all that comes with reliable CDTA bus service to the residents of Amsterdam and into Montgomery County communities. This is a big win for my Assembly District, and one that restores a vital service to residents that have struggled with a lack of public transit options for quite some time”
The CDTA has been a partner in the Capital Region for more than 50 years and has continued to evolve and expanded its services to meet riders’ needs. This expansion and associated funding will ensure a reliable, affordable and safe transportation option for commuters, seniors and students, noted Santabarbara.
