March 13th is K9 Veterans Day

Assemblyman Santabarbara to recognize police and rescue dogs from Schenectady Police Department and the Schenectady and Montgomery County Sheriffs’ Departments

Assemblyman Angelo Santabarbara will be hosting a special event at the state Capitol on K9 Veterans Day, Monday, March 13th, to recognize the service of military, police and rescue dogs in New York State. The Assemblyman will be joined by local service dogs from the Montgomery and Schenectady County Sheriff Departments and Schenectady Police Department. Following the event, a special resolution will be passed in the State Assembly recognizing March 13th as K-9 Veterans Day in New York State, honoring past and present service dogs for their valuable service and protection. Military and law enforcement canine units hold a rich part in American history, dating all the way back to World War II.

“For more than a century in America, brave dogs have demonstrated countless acts of heroism and bravery, repeatedly risking their lives to keep people safe. It is in recognition of these dedicated service dogs that I’m proud to hold ‘K9 Veterans Appreciation Day’ here at our state Capitol,” said Assemblyman Angelo Santabarbara. “It’s important for New York State to recognize the devotion, loyalty and bravery of the dogs that have protected us in the past and those that continue to keep us safe today.”
