Assemblyman Angelo Santabarbara Urges Governor to Reconvene Limousine Safety Task Force
Assemblyman Angelo Santabarbara is urging Governor Kathy Hochul to allow for the limousine safety task force to reconvene to continue its work and issue further recommendations to the legislature. Previously, the task force was given a deadline of October 2022 to issue a final report, which was before the Inspector General released findings about the Schoharie Limousine crash.
“Since the Inspector General’s report came out, there is new information to review, and there is more work to be done. Let’s allow the task force to reconvene, review all the new information that was not available to them before, and make sure that we leave no stone unturned when it comes to improving limo safety,” said Assemblyman Angelo Santabarbara.
Santabarbara, who sponsored the original legislation that created the task force following the 2018 Schoharie crash, has also introduced new legislation in the State Assembly that will allow for the task force to reconvene with a new deadline of December 2024 for its next report.
“It is important for the members of the task force to be allowed to continue its work including a review of the Inspector General’s findings and make any further recommendations to the legislature to improve limousine safety,” Santabarbara said. “My bill will extend the timeline for the report to be reviewed by task force members, for further meetings to take place, and new ideas to be brought forward to the legislature.”
