Assemblyman Angelo Santabarbara's 2023 Student Cabinet to Meet This Friday
Students to hold hearing on recently highlighted cell phone policy at Bethlehem Schools
Assemblyman Angelo Santabarbara’s 2023 Student Cabinet is scheduled to meet on Friday, May 19th at 11AM in Hearing Room C of the Legislative Office Building at the New York State Capitol.
Students are scheduled to hold a hearing on cell phone use in schools following the recently highlighted cell phone policy at the Bethlehem School District requiring high school students to place their cell phones in locking magnetic pouches during the school day. The district hopes that this measure will foster increased socialization among students. During the hearing, students will hear testimony from school administrators, public safety, and parent representatives to actively seek valuable insights regarding cell phone policies in schools.
Launched in 2014, Assemblyman Santabarbara's student cabinet aims to empower local students by involving them in discussions on topics that significantly impact their lives, including statewide education policies. “Our community’s youth deserve a voice, especially when it comes to making decisions and forming policy that directly affects them,” said Assemblyman Santabarbara. "As more school districts across the state consider implementing limits on cell phone usage, I eagerly anticipate hearing directly from students regarding their opinions on these matters."
