Assemblyman Santabarbara Announces Bill Passed that will Ensure Motor Vehicle Dealers Search for Recalls, Make Repairs
Assemblyman Angelo Santabarbara announced legislation passed in the Assembly that will require used motor vehicle dealers to search for manufacturer’s recalls on their used inventory and ensure needed repairs are made before vehicles are sold (A.6549).
“With the price of new cars continuing to rise, more New Yorkers are turning to the used vehicles market,” said Assemblyman Angelo Santabarbara. “To ensure the safety of our roadways and consumers are protected, we must ensure vehicle recalls are addressed before they are put on the road.”
Currently, when a manufacturer initiates a safety recall, it is only required to contact the registered owner, leading to recalls slipping through the cracks for car dealerships and third-party buyers. Under the bill that Santabarbara cosponsored, drivers will have peace of mind knowing the vehicle they purchased does not have any outstanding safety recalls that need to be addressed.
