Assemblyman Angelo Santabarbara is taking a stand against the recent eviction of residents at the Super 8 Motel in Rotterdam, which made way for migrant individuals transported by Mayor Eric Adams of New York City. In a formal letter addressed to New York State Attorney General Letitia James, Santabarbara seeks immediate intervention to investigate the legality of these abrupt evictions without notice and if any other related violation of rights occurred.

The situation at the Super 8 Motel came to the attention of Assemblyman Santabarbara's office last night, sparking deep concern and outrage. The decision to direct buses carrying migrants to the motel without prior consultation or coordination with local representatives, including Santabarbara's office, has left the community members already residing there in distress.

"It is deeply troubling to witness the complete disregard for the well-being of our vulnerable community members who had long-term arrangements to stay at the Super 8, some struggling with poverty, and some placed there by the Department of Social Services," said Assemblyman Santabarbara. "While I understand the importance of addressing the challenges faced by migrants, it should not come at the expense of vulnerable citizens like this. The fact is, they were essentially evicted without notice, now left to fend for themselves—it’s just wrong.”

The lack of transparency and communication from the mayor’s office concerning this matter has further exacerbated the situation. Assemblyman Santabarbara stresses the necessity for open dialogue and cooperation between federal, state, and local authorities when dealing with critical issues such as these. Assemblyman Santabarbara also emphasized the equal importance of safeguarding the well-being of local residents facing hardship.

In his letter seeking assistance from the New York State Attorney General, Assemblyman Santabarbara implores immediate action to investigate the legality of these actions and if any other violation of rights occurred. "The state government must intervene in this chaotic and unfair situation," he stated. "We need to ensure our principals of compassion and fairness are upheld."
