Today, Assemblyman Angelo Santabarbara has taken a stand against the recent actions by New York City Mayor Eric Adams, urging federal representatives to intervene in a deeply troubling situation affecting the community in Rotterdam, New York.

In a letter addressed to the Hon. Charles Schumer, United States Senate (letter attached); the Hon. Kirsten Gillibrand, United States Senate (letter attached); and the Hon. Paul Tonko, United States House of Representatives (letter attached), Assemblyman Santabarbara expressed his outrage over the abrupt displacement of vulnerable individuals from the Super 8 Motel in Rotterdam, Schenectady County. The motel had been providing long-term housing to individuals facing personal hardships, including those in poverty and placed there by Social Services.

The mayor's decision to bus migrants to the Super 8 Motel without prior consultation with local representatives, including Assemblyman Santabarbara's office, has raised serious concerns about transparency and communication. As a result, many individuals from the community were left to fend for themselves without any support or alternative arrangements.

Assemblyman Santabarbara acknowledged the importance of addressing the challenges faced by migrants but highlighted that it should not come at the expense of the well-being of the local community. He called on federal representatives to take immediate action to address this issue and put an end to the chaotic and unfair situation.

"I urgently implore you to use your influence and authority to work towards finding a fair and equitable solution," Assemblyman Santabarbara wrote in the letter. "Proper protocols and consultation should be followed to ensure the best interests of all parties involved are safeguarded."

Furthermore, the Assemblyman urged federal representatives to advocate for policies that prioritize open communication and cooperation between federal, state, and local authorities in critical matters such as this.
