Assemblyman Angelo Santabarbara Reintroduces Alzheimer’s Disease Resource Notification Bill in Support of the 2024 Walk to End Alzheimer’s

As the 2024 Walk to End Alzheimer’s - Schenectady Fulton Montgomery approaches this Saturday, October 5, Assemblyman Angelo Santabarbara is proud to reintroduce Bill (A8348), the Alzheimer’s Disease Resource Notification Bill, a legislative effort aimed at supporting individuals diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease and their families.

The Walk to End Alzheimer’s is a powerful event that brings together the community to raise awareness and funds for Alzheimer’s care, support, and research. Assemblyman Santabarbara’s reintroduction of this bill aligns with the spirit of the event, ensuring that individuals affected by Alzheimer’s have access to the critical resources they need.

Key Provisions of Bill (A8348) - Alzheimer’s Disease Resource Notification Bill:

  • Mandatory Informational Resources: Insurers will be required to provide written, evidence-based resources to individuals diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease. These resources will address the physical, developmental, educational, and psychosocial aspects of living with the disease.
  • Up-to-Date, Culturally Relevant Content: Developed by medical experts and patient advocacy groups, the resources will be kept current and tailored to be culturally and linguistically appropriate.
  • Contact Information for Support Organizations: The resources will include information for organizations such as the Alzheimer’s Association, which specialize in supporting individuals with Alzheimer’s.
  • Timely Access: Individuals diagnosed with Alzheimer’s will receive these resources within 60 days of their diagnosis, ensuring prompt support.
  • Flexible Delivery Options: The resources will be sent by U.S. mail unless the individual opts for electronic delivery.
