Santabarbara Calls on President to Issue Federal Disaster Declaration
Assemblyman Angelo Santabarbara (D-Rotterdam) continues to call on President Obama to issue a Disaster Declaration for the recent flooding experienced in the Mohawk Valley.
“Affected families, businesses and neighborhoods need support while working to repair and replace lost homes and belongings, buildings and infrastructure,” said Santabarbara. “Should the feds not come through for Mohawk Valley families, I will work with Governor Cuomo to ensure New York State does.”
In a letter to the President, Santabarbara notes the hardships affected families are facing due to the loss of their homes and livelihoods, as many local businesses must make major repairs before reopening, and some deciding to close their doors forever.
“Unfortunately it seems that extreme weather is becoming a normal occurrence in communities across the state,” Santabarbara said. “We must do everything we can to better prepare for these types of emergencies to lessen the impact they have on our neighborhoods and families.”
