Flood Victims to Receive State Assistance Rebuilding Their Lives
Montgomery County will receive $4 million in aid for recovery
Assemblyman Angelo Santabarbara (D-Rotterdam) was at Herkimer County Community College, along with Governor Cuomo and other local officials, to address the flooding that has affected families in the Mohawk Valley. To provide the much-needed assistance homeowners, small businesses and farmers will require, the state will be launching the $16 million Mohawk Valley and 2013 Upstate Flood Recovery Program.
“I applaud Governor Cuomo’s swift decision to provide individual aid for Mohawk Valley families who have suffered unimaginable losses due to recent flooding,” said Assemblyman Angelo Santabarbara. “While I’m disappointed in FEMA’s decision, I stand with the governor, ready to provide support to our friends and neighbors so they can begin the rebuilding process and restore some sense of normalcy to their lives.”
On Monday, federal aid was rejected for the hundreds of flood victims affected by the recent flooding. The financial support, which will provide immediate recovery assistance to flood victims, will be made available from state funds set aside by the legislature this year for emergency purposes.
