Assemblyman Angelo Santabarbara (D-Rotterdam) announced that he will host an electronics recycling event on Saturday, May 10, from 9:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m., at the Time Warner Cable building located at 1021 Highbridge Road in Rotterdam. Home and business electronics will be accepted and recycled free of charge. The event will benefit the Rotterdam Youth Soccer Club.

“It seems like every day new technologies are being developed and our old electronic devices are becoming outdated,” said Assemblyman Santabarbara. “This e-recycling event allows families and businesses to safely dispose of their unwanted electronics for free, while also benefiting a great local organization.”

Items that can be recycled at the event include but are not limited to:

• cell phones;
• computers and laptops;
• printers and scanners;
• game consoles;
• MP3 players;
• LCD televisions (not CRT) and VCRs.

Time Warner Cable and Colt Recycling will be working in conjunction to recycle the items and donate the proceeds to benefit the Rotterdam Youth Soccer Club’s plans for a new indoor soccer facility on Duanesburg Road. Recycling old electronics is an important step that helps reduce greenhouse gas emissions, while saving energy and preserving our natural resources, Assemblyman Santabarbara noted. For example, recycling one million laptops saves the energy equivalent of the electricity used by 3,657 households over the course of an entire year.¹
