Assemblyman Santabarbara Announces Critical Investments in the Upstate Region
Assemblyman Angelo Santabarbara (D-Rotterdam) announced that the state budget invests more than $3 billion in Upstate New York.
“Working closely with local officials, community organizations and non-profit groups we can ensure that our area benefits from the state’s investment in upstate New York. Together, I am confident that we can secure major developments in our communities, including road improvements, water and sewer upgrades, game changing economic initiatives and an overhaul of critical infrastructure projects. ” said Assemblyman Angelo Santabarbara.
The state budget includes the $1.5 billion Upstate Revitalization Initiative, $400 million for upstate health care improvements, $500 million for broadband upgrades, more than $200 million for water and sewer projects, $100 million to revitalize Brownfield sites, $50 million for extreme weather repairs to local roads and bridges. Additionally, it invests an overall of $25 million for upstate transit systems.
Extreme Weather & Infrastructure investments
“It was essential that we give our local governments the resources they need to improve our aging roads and bridges,” said Assemblyman Santabarbara. “These funds will help us recover from the damage caused by another tough winter and address the infrastructure needs that have gone unaddressed for too long.”
Water & Sewer Projects
“We have repeatedly experienced the pitfalls of relying on aging water and sewer systems, but the state’s investment will enable our municipalities to make important upgrades to ensure our residents have safe and reliable services,” said Assemblyman Santabarbara.
Upstate Transit investment
“Our upstate families, students and seniors rely on our transit systems each and every day and it’s important that we secured the critical funding to ensure reliable service is maintained and expanded in our region. I strongly advocated for this increase in funding for transportation infrastructure because it is a smart investment in the future of our upstate region that will strengthen our local economies and support job creation,” said Assemblyman Santabarbara.
Brownfield Investment
“The state budget includes important funding and reforms to continue the effectiveness of the Brownfield program, which is helping to revitalize our upstate communities,” said Assemblyman Santabarbara.
