Assemblyman Angelo Santabarbara nominated Nicholas Demitraszek, a senior at the Fonda- Fultonville High School in Montgomery County, to be considered for the US Presidential Scholarship award. On Thursday, New York State Education Commissioner MaryEllen Elia announced that Mr. Demitraszek, along with 24 other New York State high school seniors, has been officially named as a nominee and will now have a unique opportunity to receive the award.

The US Presidential Scholarship award was established in 1964 in order to recognize some of the country’s most accomplished graduating high school seniors. Each year, one male and one female from each state is named as a Presidential Scholar and awarded a trip to Washington, DC where they will meet a wide array of important figures, ranging from government officials to educators, scientists and musicians.

“I was very pleased to nominate Nicholas Demitraszek from the Fonda-Fultonville High School to be considered in this year’s US Presidential Scholars program,” said Assemblyman Angelo Santabarbara. “I know he has made the Fonda-Fultonville School District very proud with this recognition and it represents his hard work and dedication both in and outside of the classroom,” Assemblyman Santabarbara added. “I’m thankful to have Nicholas serving as a member of my student cabinet for the upcoming legislative session.”
