Assemblyman Santabarbara Announces State Funding for Libraries
More than $500,000 coming to Montgomery County Libraries
Assemblyman Angelo Santabarbara announced state funding approved for local public library construction projects. These projects are supported by an initiative that Assemblyman Santabarbara advocated for in the state budget.
“An investment in our libraries is an investment in our communities,” said Assemblyman Angelo Santabarbara. “With more schools adapting to on-line learning, libraries are more important now than ever to meet the educational needs of our youth,” Santabarbara said. “This funding will help local libraries continue to serve the Montgomery County area and provide our communities with important resources during these challenging times.”
State Aid for Library Construction assists local libraries with construction projects and provides funding for up-to-date technology and resources to accommodate their communities. Many public libraries are unable to accommodate users with disabilities, are not energy efficient, are in outdated buildings, and do not have sufficient space to house the additional resources they now provide.
“With this funding, a number of projects important to the success of our local libraries will now be possible, including measures that ensure more accessibility and accommodations for those with disabilities,” Assemblyman Santabarbara added.
State Aid for Library Construction provided:
- $496,646 to the Amsterdam Free Library to replace 3 windows, waterproof walls, install French drain, restore sidewalk. Restore floor, relocate electrical room & network lines and plumbing;
- $4,864 to the Frothingham Free Library to purchase two sturdy and lockable doors. Create an exit to the rear of the building.
“Libraries give children and families the opportunity to read, learn and explore together,” Santabarbara said. “From providing Internet access to offering job search assistance, they’re integral resources important to our communities during these unprecedented times. This funding will help our libraries complete necessary renovations and expand their facilities so they can continue serving our residents.”
