It is with great sorrow, but also with great honor, that I write about my dear friend, Louis R. Lupi, Sr. He will forever be remembered for his contribution as a community leader, a friend, and a World War II veteran. I invite you to watch the passage of my resolution honoring Louis R. Lou passed away on January 20th at the age of 94. He was a remarkable man, appreciated for his service, dedication, and love for our country. He bravely served as a sharpshooter in U.S. Army during World War II as a part of the 9th Army Air Corp. During his service, he garnered many valuable skills, like taking on new languages, and took part in historic battles like the Normandy invasion.

Following his service in the armed forces, Lou returned home where he began a long career with the General Electric Company right here in the City of Schenectady. While back home, Lou became involved in a number of service organizations including AMVETS Post 35 here in Rotterdam. Lou was often recognized, commended and thanked for his active support of veterans in our community. It wasn’t hard to find Lou, he often wore his original army uniform at our holiday parades, ceremonies, and veteran events. Much to his enjoyment, the uniform still fit him at the age of 94.

He was an amazing person and friend to so many. Anyone who had the pleasure of getting to know Lou was surely touched by his kindness and compassion. He always found a way to bring joy into the lives of others. I, along with everyone that knew him, are deeply saddened by the loss of our good friend.

He loved our country, he loved our community – he was truly part of the greatest generation. My heart goes out to his family and loved ones.
