Assemblyman Anil Beephan, Jr. (R,C-East Fishkill) is expressing his disappointment at the Majority’s decision to hold one of his proposals from being debated and voted on in the Assembly today. Beephan’s bill would have set a central business district toll exemption for commuters from the Hudson Valley who serve critical roles in New York City’s functions, including first responders, physicians and nurses as well as people entering the city for medical treatment. Beephan is disappointed the measure is not being taken up for consideration.

“It feels like a missed opportunity to provide some financial relief during a challenging economic time for employees who play critical roles in the day-to-day operations in New York City,” Beephan said. “Many of us agree that with New York City being such a hub of activity not just for city residents, but for innumerable commuters from across the lower portion of the state, their continued involvement in that life should merit some benefits, such as an exemption from the MTA’s new congestion pricing metric. I truly hope my colleagues will reconsider this proposal in the future because the hardworking people who provide critical services in New York City deserve such a benefit.”
