Beephan Opposes Increasing Taxes to Fund MTA

Assemblyman Anil Beephan Jr. (R,C-East Fishkill) is definitively opposing any proposal that aims to increase taxes on New Yorkers to fund the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA). Instead of burdening hardworking taxpayers, Beephan is calling on the MTA to conduct a thorough internal review to identify inefficiencies and explore cost-cutting measures before seeking additional funding. He is also renewing his call for a full, independent audit of the agency to ensure transparency and accountability.

“It is unacceptable that the MTA continuously looks to taxpayers as its personal piggy bank instead of addressing its own fiscal mismanagement. Albany’s knee-jerk reaction to financial shortfalls is always to raise taxes, and New Yorkers are paying the price—literally,” said Beephan. “With people already struggling under the weight of inflation and skyrocketing costs, now is not the time to take more money out of their pockets.”

Beephan argues the MTA must first examine its internal operations, eliminate wasteful spending and prove to the public that it is managing its current funds responsibly.

“For too long, the MTA has operated with little accountability while asking for more and more from taxpayers. This cycle has to end,” Beephan continued. “Before another dime is demanded from the public, we need a full, independent audit of the agency. The people of New York deserve transparency, responsible financial stewardship and a government that works for them—not against them.”
