Assembly Majority Allows Gov. Cuomo to Extend His Emergency Powers Should He Desire to Do So
A statement from Assemblyman Brian Manktelow (R,C,I-Lyons) on bill A.5967
March 5, 2021
“Today, I was disappointed to watch Assembly Majority pass a bill which claimed to repeal the governor’s emergency powers, when in all actuality it allows the governor to extend his powers every 30 days should he deem it necessary. In response, our conference introduced an amendment which truly revoked his powers, but it was sadly shot down by many of our colleagues across the aisle. What disturbs me the most, is that the governor still has the same powers over our nursing homes. What more has to happen for Assembly Majority to hold the governor accountable for his actions and the destruction of New York?”
