Assemblywoman Carrie Woerner (D-Round Lake) announced that the Assembly has passed legislation she sponsored that would allow Saratoga County to rededicate a portion of the existing occupancy tax towards the economic development efforts of the Saratoga Prosperity Partnership (A.6909).

“The Prosperity Partnership is working to support local businesses and attract new ones to help create stable, well-paying jobs for local men and women,” said Assemblywoman Woerner. “Encouraging economic development and increasing the availability of good jobs have been two of my top priorities since entering office, and I have worked tirelessly to ensure that this measure would be approved by the Assembly.”

For 35 years, Saratoga County has worked with the Saratoga Economic Development Corporation (SEDC) to attract new business to the county. Last year, the county decided to create its own not-for-profit economic development agency to complement SEDC’s efforts. The mission of this agency is to continue to grow small businesses, and to promote tourism and agriculture in Saratoga County.

To fund this new organization, Saratoga County requested that 50 percent of the existing hotel tax be rededicated to the Prosperity Partnership. Assemblywoman Woerner worked to get this legislation approved by the Assembly so the county could move forward on its economic development plan.

“Recognizing the importance of this organization to the Saratoga County Board of Supervisors and county officials, I made this bill one of my top priorities. I believe in the importance of keeping government close to home, and am proud to advocate for the requests of my local municipalities.”
