Assemblywoman Woerner Seeks Nominations for Women of Distinction Awards
Students also invited to participate in Women of Distinction Essay Contest
Assemblywoman Carrie Woerner (D-Round Lake) announced she is seeking nominations for her 2017 Women of Distinction Awards to honor local women for the invaluable work they do to strengthen the Saratoga and Washington County communities. She is also accepting submissions from students for her Women of Distinction Essay Contest. Nominations and essays are due by March 31.
"Women's History Month is a time to recognize the remarkable women who have shattered glass ceilings and made exceptional contributions to the world," Woerner said. "It's important that we honor the women making strides in our community and inspiring young people as we continue to fight for equality and opportunity for all."
Woerner has been a vocal advocate for women's rights, helping pass laws to secure pay equity and implement paid family leave and strengthening protections for women in the workplace and for victims of domestic violence and human trafficking.
Residents are invited to nominate a woman they know who is helping make a difference in our community in fields including business, community service, education, health care, military service, and humanitarian work. Students in grades 6-12 are encouraged to submit a 500-word essay about a woman who is an inspiration and has impacted society. Submissions can be made via mail, email or by visiting Assemblywoman Woerner's website at nyassembly.gov/Woerner.
"I'm looking forward to celebrating the women from our area, both past and present, who have helped make the future brighter for us all," Woerner said.
Essay contest winners and Women of Distinction honorees will be announced at the Women of Distinction Awards Ceremony on Saturday, April 29, at 11 a.m. at Skidmore College in Saratoga Springs. Anyone with questions about the essay contest or awards ceremony, or any other community issue, can contact Assemblywoman Woerner's office at 518-584-5493 or by emailing WoernerC@nyassembly.gov.
