Assembly Assistant Majority Leader Charles D. Fall Statement on the NYC Asylum Seeker Crisis

"We are in a state of emergency as we deal with this drastic and growing national crisis. To truly solve this crisis in New York City and across the country, it will take a coordinated bi-partisan approach. Since the lifting of Title 42, we have seen over 700 migrants arriving in New York City per day. A decompression strategy is needed now more than ever across the city and state, with logistical and financial assistance from the federal government as well as the city and state working in unison.

We as elected officials must be consulted with open lines of communication to ensure that school leadership and families are informed & there is little disruption for our kids when asylum seekers are moved into school gymnasiums throughout the city. We know that the current use of school facilities is far from ideal especially in already highly shelter-saturated districts across the city but we also know that the people being housed there are not there by choice. Ultimately, now more than ever, the City, State and Federal government must work together to provide a transparent and comprehensive plan in dealing with this humanitarian crisis."
