Fall Urges NYCECS to Consider a Park and Concessions at the Once Proposed NY Wheel Site
Six months after the NY Wheel project was abruptly ended, the city and the New York City Economic Development Corporation (NYCEDC) has yet to come out with a proposal for the open space located in the Richmond Terrace area.
NYCEDC announced on Monday that it has not yet put out any request for proposals to date. The property is currently in lease turmoil and there is an estimated $2.3 million in deferred rent with additional penalties for the current location.
I urge NYCEDC to consider an open space, instituting the first flagship waterfront park on the North Shore, with the inclusion of opportunities for active recreation, vendors and community gardens. This mixed use proposal would be advantageous for the surrounding community and small business entrepreneurs and would encourage healthier lifestyles by implementing bike and pedestrian pathways.
As always, I encourage an open dialogue with the city administration and NYCEDC. It is essential that we have community input as well as we move forward with any proposals for this auspicious waterfront property, said Fall.
