Assembly Charles D. Fall (D-Richmond) yesterday organized a Fasting Challenge and Iftar Dinner with his Assembly and Senate colleagues to show religious solidarity during the Holy Month of Ramadan.

Ramadan is a special month of the year for over one million Muslims throughout New York State. It is expected of Muslims to fast during the holy month, relating to the fourth pillar of Islam.

Muslims during Ramadan wake up before dawn for a meal called Suhoor and break their fast at sundown with a meal called Iftar. Not only do Muslims abstain from food and drink, but also immoral acts and are expected to extend out acts of kindness to his or her fellow man and woman.

“I want to extend out to my colleagues a special thank you for participating in this religious unity challenge. This event sets the precedence for all religious denominations to Stand United not only for one day, but throughout the year,” said Fall. #NYFasting #NYStandsUnited
