Assemblyman Charles D. Fall Meets With NYC DOT Administration to Discuss School Zone Safety
Assemblyman Charles D. Fall (D-Richmond) yesterday, met with NYC Department of Transportation Staten Island Borough Commissioner Thomas R. Cocola outside Our Lady of Mount Carmel-Benedicta School in Port Richmond to discuss the recent implementation of a school slow zone on Clove Road from Castleton Avenue to White Place.
The Department of Transportation School Safety Unit who runs the Citys Vision Zero and School Slow Zone programs recently did a study and found that a safety zone was necessary to keep pedestrians and students safe around the school.
School Safety works with community members, school administrators and elected officials to identify and implement safety projects and assures that proper signage for drivers are put in place to prevent aggressive and distracted drivers.
As we approach the first day of school we can discuss many topics on how to keep our schools safe for our children. We are taking a major step in that process by placing a School Slow Zone that will give assurance to families and the surrounding communities of Our Lady of Mount Carmel, said Assemblyman Charles D. Fall.
Installing School Slow Zones provides a safer and more comfortable pedestrian environment for students and we are fully committed to this initiative, said NYC DOT Staten Island Borough Commissioner Thomas R. Cocola. With 35 School Slow Zones installed throughout the borough, we are thrilled to bring this safety treatment to this community and the students of Our Lady of Mount Carmel. I would like to give a special thanks to Assemblyman Charles D. Fall for bringing this corridor to our attention.
