Assemblyman Charles D. Fall Holds a Press Conference on Recent Gun Violence and Deaths on the North Shore of Staten Island
Today, Assemblyman Charles D. Fall (D-Richmond) held a press conference with local clergy, concerned neighbors, gun safety advocates and Stradford Funeral Home.
According to NYPD CompStat data, there has been a total of thirty (30) shootings on Staten Island through Sept. 13th, up 114% from the 14 shootings through the same time period in 2019. Additionally, according to the data, from August 1st to September 11th, police have made 18 gun-related arrests across the borough, compared to 12 during the same time period in 2019.
“It’s evident that we have a serious problem on our hands. As we do with other crises, New Yorkers collectively band together to resolve the problem.
Faith leaders, local and state elected, law enforcement, community advocates and neighbors must work together to get guns off our streets, report incidents and bring perpetrators to justice. Something must change immediately. We must continue to confront gun violence head-on because while disagreements can be mediated peacefully, the loss of life is irreversible, said Assemblyman Charles D. Fall.
