Hauppauge, New York – After leading a massive collection effort, Assemblymember Charles Lavine (D-North Shore) was on hand for final shipment overseas of thousands of pounds of humanitarian aid for the suffering people of Ukraine. For the last several months in the aftermath of Russia’s unprovoked attack on Ukraine, Lavine’s office has worked in partnership with Long Island Cares and the Ukrainian Americans of Long Island (UALI) to collect and transport desperately needed goods such as clothing, non-perishable food, personal care items, and household supplies. On Friday (9/30) Lavine joined representatives from all the organizations involved to oversee the loading of more than 20 pallets containing more than 10,000 pounds of goods onto a truck that was heading to a shipping company in New Jersey. The pallets were then to be placed aboard a ship headed to Poland en route to its final destination in Lviv, Ukraine where it will be distributed in just a matter of weeks.

“Today marks the culmination of a herculean effort by my office along with partners at Long Island Cares and the Ukrainian Americans of Long Island,” Lavine said. “But it all starts with the incredible generosity of the people of Long Island who recognized the desperate plight of the people of Ukraine whose lives have been forever changed resulting from the unprovoked invasion of their country,” he added.
