Glen Cove, New York – A middle school for children with developmental disabilities and autism spectrum disorders in Glen Cove has completed upgrades to its facilities with help from Assemblymember Charles Lavine (D-North Shore). It’s been five years since Tiegerman Middle School celebrated its grand opening after a massive renovation project. While the school was operational, it still required upgrades to make it ADA compliant. That’s where Lavine came in by securing a $125,000 grant which covered the cost of an elevator to be installed, bathroom renovations, and the construction of a ramp at the front entrance. To mark the completion of the project, Lavine visited the school and was warmly welcomed by students, teachers, and administrators.

Lavine said: “It gives me immense pride to see how the children at Tiegerman Middle School are benefitting from the existence of this facility and its dedicated staff. I am thankful that I was able to do my part to help.” 

Tiegerman Middle School is located on Cedar Swamp Avenue in Glen Cove in the historic Coles School building which was constructed in 1928. It’s operated by Glen Cove-based Tiegerman Schools and Community Services. The nonprofit organization provides educational and vocational programs that help instruct children, teens, and adults with speech and learning disorders and autism.
