Cold Spring Harbor, New York – The seawall around Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory is more stable and protected from potential storm surges thanks in part to funding secured by Assemblymember Charles Lavine (D-North Shore).Lavine secured a $125,000 grant for the construction and rehabilitation of the seawall, as well as for the installation of drainage for runoff into the inner harbor adjacent to the lab grounds. He toured the site as construction was in full force and recently returned to the lab, one of the world’s preeminent biomedical research and education facilities, to survey the finished project and could not have been more pleased with how it all turned out.
“I am extremely impressed with the outcome of this project and am proud to have provided the financial means to get it done. The new seawall was a necessity and will help maintain the integrity of the shore around this incredible gem we are so fortunate to have right here on the North Shore,” Lavine said. “I give so much credit to Steve Monez, who oversees facilities at the lab, and his amazing team for seeing this marvelous feat of engineering through to completion. I also love the flowery landscaping which provides an added touch of beauty to this magnificent location,” he added.
