Lavine Issues Statement on Underground Transmission Project

Glen Cove, New York – Assemblymember Charles Lavine (D-North Shore) has released the following statement regarding the proposed Propel NY Energy underground transmission project:

With the concerns about global warming and reliance on fossil fuels stronger than ever, I have been closely following the developments concerning this project. It is intended to modernize and strengthen the aging electric grid across Long Island, New York City, and Westchester County while supporting local jobs and economic opportunity. I am also aware of concerns by some in the community about safety and environmental impact. This project is subject to Article VII of the New York State Public Service Law, which governs the siting of major utility transmission facilities in the state. The law requires a full review of the need for a project and its potential environmental impact. The Public Service Commission then renders a decision permitting the project to move forward or not. While hearings on the matter have concluded, residents can still post public comments on the Department of Public Service webpage https://documents.dps.ny.gov/public/MatterManagement/CaseMaster.aspx?MatterSeq=74038&MNO=24-T-0446&fbclid= IwY2xjawMkFsJleHRuA2FlbQIxMABicmlkETF3a2FKQTFLNkx0dFpCV3JUAR4RzEfXzDPBETwxrMtsbThM05WezmetHCG _wC4B0jONUrqa0ubsRmTYy1wNeQ_aem_OYHYm5PK2b1ZhA-GzLz8RQ right up until the PSC makes its decision.
