Lavine Calls for Justice at Vigil to Support Immigrants

Glen Cove, New York – A vigil coordinated by New York State Assemblymember Charles Lavine (D-North Shore) put the spotlight on Trump Administration policies resulting in the mistreatment of immigrants by ICE. Lavine led the event at the Glen Cove LIRR station on Thursday night (November 13, 2025), which involved several faith community leaders and was attended by more than 100 people who held signs and sang songs. In his remarks, Lavine noted the purpose of the gathering was “to stand together against the dehumanizing immigration policies of our current administration and to show support to those families affected in our community.” He added, “As the Assemblymember for the 13th district, I have seen firsthand the devastating impacts these policies have had on innocent, hardworking mothers and fathers, and we must stand together and fight for justice.” Among the faith leaders who participated were Pastor Brenda Lopez of Iglesia Ciudad De Refugio Church in Glen Cove, Reverend Jesse Lebus of St. Luke’s Episcopal Church in Sea Cliff, Cantor Gustavo Gitlin of Congregation Tifereth Israel in Glen Cove, Reverend Roger Williams of First Baptist Church in Glen Cove, and Rabbi Sharon Ballan of Temple Beth Sholom in Flushing.
