Assemblymember Lavine Warns Governor Over Demeaning Comments Directed at the Attorney General
Glen Cove, New York – Assemblymember Charles Lavine (D-Glen Cove) has sent a letter to Governor Cuomo on the subject of demeaning comments directed to the Attorney General and the damaging effect of such conduct on potential witnesses. The letter notes as well that attempts to suppress witness cooperation may very well have severe repercussions in terms of the Judiciary Committee's consideration of the question of the impeachment of the governor.
“I am extraordinarily concerned with respect to the Governor's communications director's verbal attack against the Attorney General,” Lavine said. “Demeaning the Attorney General in turn demeans the Attorney General's investigation and at the same time sends an obviously intimidating message to potential witnesses.”
Lavine, who serves as Chair of the Assembly Judiciary Committee investigating the possible impeachment of the Governor, served formal notice of non-retaliation and non-harassment/intimidation on the Governor on March 15, 2021. Please click here to view today’s letter in its entirety.
