Assemblymember Lavine Honors Syosset World War II Veteran with Citation
Glen Cove, New York – Assemblymember Charles Lavine (D-Glen Cove) presented a Citation to Syosset VFW Post 6394 in recognition of the life and heroism of late World War II veteran Constantino “Gus” Scutari. Lavine presented the Citation at the Post’s 75th anniversary celebration Saturday (10/2/21). Lavine posthumously thanked Scutari, and all present veterans, for what they have done to protect democracy.
“Gus fought to protect America from tyranny, authoritarianism, and dictatorships. There were 100,000 Navy casualties in the Second World War. 63,000 killed in action. Too many of those who were killed or wounded were Gus’ friends. Gus lived his life to give life to those,” Lavine said.
The beloved Navy veteran, and pillar of the Syosset community, died last August (2020) days after his 99th birthday. The Post is now named after him.
