Assemblymember Lavine Presents Citation to Female Pioneer Evelyn Kandel
Glen Cove, New York – Assemblymember Charles Lavine (D-Glen Cove) is recognizing the accomplishments of one of America’s female pioneers. Lavine issued a citation to Evelyn Kandel in honor of her being named a Living Legend by the Military Women’s Memorial. The Glen Cove native is one of the first women to join the Marines. Lavine presented the citation as Kandel was being honored at the Glen Cove City Council meeting at City Hall Tuesday night (10/26). Kandel was heavily involved in helping to market the armed forces as a career option for women, having been featured on Times Square billboard and a postage stamp. She also traveled to colleges on the West Coast recruiting young women for officer training. Kandel is currently the Nassau County Poet Laureate.
