Tague Expresses Concern for Future of Farming as Farm Laborers Wage Board Postpones Overtime Threshold Decision Until January
December 15, 2021
“While I am relieved to a degree that this delay has temporarily distanced our farms from disaster, our farmers need certainty that they’ll be able continue their operations beyond the next few years, or even pass their farms to the next generation. Farming is not and never will be work that can be done on a 9-5 schedule, not this year, not next year, and likely not ever. If we wish to preserve farming in New York as we know it today, there is only one decision that can possibly be made, and that is to leave the overtime threshold where it is. Farmers throughout the state have spoken, so my only hope is the Farm Laborers Wage Board will hear their clear and united opposition to this proposal as they reconvene.”
